Any story is the quest to fulfil a human desire. We have identified universal quests for every human desire. These universal quests reveal the invisible plot structure of stories. An analysis of Blockbuster, Hit & Flop plots led to the discovery of Mythosis Code. The Code reveals the story principles shared by all Blockbusters. We use the Code to estimate and unlock a story plots' Blockbuster potential.

  • All Blockbusters have at least 3 universal quests. The Marvels has 3 universal quests of Accumulation, Order and Honour.

  • In Blockbusters, each universal quest is mirrored by ONLY ONE character. Dar-Benn mirrors the quest of Accumulation. Carol mirrors the quest of Order & Kamala mirrors the universal quest of Honour. Monica’s quest of Acceptance is under-developed. Fury has no quest.

  • Every Blockbuster character borrows at least 35% of the universal quest. Dar-Benn’s character borrows 32% of the universal quest of Accumulation. Carol’s character borrows 13% of the quest of Order. Kamala borrows 9% of the universal quest of Honour.

  • Blockbusters interweave different quests to create a tight plot structure. Interweaving occurs when events of 2 quests occur simultaneously in the story. Blockbusters have a quest interweaving threshold of 0.5. The Marvels quest interweaving score of 0.33 is below par. Only the quests of Carol & Dar-Benn are interwoven with each other. Here is an example:

The Marvels’ script interweaves the tales of Ram & Ravan

  • Blockbusters have a script score of at least 0.64 whereas The Marvels script score is 0.06. Based on the script score we estimate that the movie will appeal to 1.75 – 2.13% of the population.

The plot structure of The Marvels uses 3 universal quests but none of the character quests have sufficient depth resulting in under-developed characters. Moreover, the lack of interweaving between quests, creates gaps in the plot thereby impacting the tightness of the plot.

89% events in The Marvels are borrowed from 3 mythological tales

At Mythosis, we have identified 32 mythological tales. Each mythological tale uniquely represents a human quest to fulfil a desire. These tales are the super set of thousands of tales across cultures.
We have codified the events of each mythological tale. Every tale has 5 major arcs. Each arc has a sequence of events. These events culminate into a major event. Here is the mapping of each character’s quest to the major events in their respective mythological tale.

Quest 1: Dar-Benn mirrors 32% of Ravan’s quest for Accumulation (marginally below threshold)
Dar-Benn’s desire for Accumulation stems from the need to collect & own. The tale of Ravan from Hindu mythology is the universal quest for Accumulation.

In The Marvels, Dar-Benn borrows from the Hindu mythological tale of Ravan

Quest 2: Carol mirrors 13% of Ram’s quest for Order (below threshold of 35%)
Carol’s desire for Order stems from the need for organization to maintain stability. The tale of Ram from Hindu mythology is the universal quest for Order.

In The Marvels, Kamala borrows from the Hindu mythological tale of Hanuman

Quest 3: Kamala mirrors 9% of Hanuman’s quest for Honour (below threshold of 35%)
Kamala’s desire for Honour stems from the need to be loyal to a clan/order. The tale of Hanuman from Hindu mythology is the universal quest for Honour.
