Character journeys in Gran Turismo mirror the tales of Theseus & Dronacharya
At Mythosis, we have identified 32
mythological tales. Each mythological tale uniquely represents a human quest to
fulfil a desire. These tales are the super set of thousands of tales
across cultures.
We have codified the events of each
mythological tale. Every tale has 5 major arcs. Each arc has a sequence of
events. These events culminate into a major event. Here is the mapping of each
character’s quest to the major events in their respective mythological tale.
1st Journey: Yann mirrors Theseus’ quest
for Acceptance
Yann’s desire for Acceptance stems
from his need for approval by others. The tale of Theseus from Greek mythology
is the universal quest for Acceptance.
2nd Journey: Salter mirrors Dronacharya's quest for Vengeance
Salter’s desire for Vengeance stems
from his need to get even. The tale of Dronacharya from Hindu mythology is the
universal quest for Vengeance.
Using the tales of Theseus & Dronacharya we have extracted the plot structure of Gran Turismo
Any
story is quest to fulfil a human desire. Our 32 mythological tales are the universal
quests for every human desire. Using these tales, we identify every desire journey
in the story. The interweaving of multiple desire journeys is the plot
structure of the story.
Number
of desire journeys: Gran Turismo uses 2 mythological tales. Yann’s journey
mirrors the universal quest of Acceptance. Salter mirrors the universal quest
of Vengeance. Both Danny & Capa have distinct desires but insufficient events
and hence undeveloped quests.
Depth of desire journeys: Yann
borrows 36% from Theseus’ tale. Salter borrows 20% from Dronacharya’s tale.
Interweaving of desire journeys: Quests of Yann & Salter are interwoven. Interweaving multiple quests creates a cohesive story. Interweaving occurs when events of 2 quests occur simultaneously in the story. Here is an example of interweaving the quests of Yann & Salter.
Gran Turismo’s plot structure reveals its box office potential
We have
developed Mythosis Code from the analysis of Blockbuster, Hits & Flops plot
structures. Mythosis Code identifies the ideal Blockbuster plot
structure for any story. It uses the ideal plot structure to estimate and
unlock a story’s Blockbuster potential.
Mythosis Code:
1. All Blockbusters borrow from at least 3 mythological tales
2. Each character mirrors ONLY ONE tale & borrows at least 35% events
3. The mythological tales used must be interwoven with a minimum score of 0.5
Plot depth lower than a Blockbuster. Gran Turismo plot structure borrows from only 2 mythological tales.
Characters are consistent. Both Yann
& Salter mirror ONE tale each
Character depth is skewed. 60% of Theseus’ quest is
borrowed by Yann which is above threshold of 35%. But Salter borrows only 20% of Dronacharya’s quest.
Low Quest interweaving score. 0.33 is below the desired figure of 0.50
Gran Turismo’s script potential score is 0.05. This indicates
an audience appeal of 1.33-1.63% of the domestic market population. The audience appeal translates to USD 47-57MM box office
revenues.
