Character journeys in Meg 2 mirror the tales of Odysseus, Noah, David & Duryodhan

At Mythosis, we have identified 32 mythological tales. Each mythological tale uniquely represents a human quest to fulfil a desire. These tales are the super set of thousands of tales across cultures.

We have codified the events of each mythological tale. Every tale has 5 major arcs. Each arc has a sequence of events. These events culminate into a major event. Here is the mapping of each character’s quest to the major events in their respective mythological tale.

Quest 1: Jiuming mirrors Odysseus’ quest for Tranquillity

Jiuming’s desire for Tranquillity stems from his need to be free from anxiety & fear. The tale of Odysseus from Greek mythology is the universal quest for Tranquillity.

Quest 3: Jonas mirrors David’s quest for Independence in the latter half

Jonas’s desire for Independence stems from his need for self-reliance & autonomy. The tale of David from Abrahamic mythology is the universal quest for Independence.

Quest 4: Driscoll mirrors Duryodhan’s quest for Power

Driscoll’s desire for Power stems from her need to dominate others. The tale of Duryodhan from Hindu mythology is the universal quest for Power.

The tales of Odysseus, Noah David & Duryodhan reveal the plot structure of Meg 2

Any plot is the quest to fulfil a human desire. And stories consist of multiple desire journeys. Hence a story plot consists of multiple desire journeys.

32 mythological tales are the universal quests for every human desire. Thus, we are able to identify every desire journey in the story. And also, its plot structure.

Number of desire journeys: Meg 2 uses 4 mythological tales. Jiuming mirrors Odysseus’ quest for Tranquillity. Jonas mirrors the quests of Noah & also David. Driscoll mirrors Duryodhan’s quest for Power. Montes has a distinct desire but an underdeveloped quest due to insufficient events in his journey.

Depth of desire journeys: Jiuming borrows 26% from Odysseus’ tale whereas Jonas borrows 10% from both Noah's & David's tale. Driscoll borrows 9% from the tale of Duryodhan.

Interweaving of desire journeys: Jiuming’s quest is interwoven with both Jonas & Driscoll. However, the quests of Jonas & Driscoll aren’t interwoven. Interweaving multiple quests creates a cohesive story. Interweaving occurs when events of 2 quests occur simultaneously in the story. Here is an example of interweaving the quests of Jiuming & Driscoll.

Mythosis estimates Meg 2’s box office potential from its plot structure

We have developed Mythosis Code from the analysis of Blockbuster, Hits & Flops plot structures. Mythosis Code identifies the ideal Blockbuster plot structure for any story. It uses the ideal plot structure to estimate and unlock a story’s Blockbuster potential.
Mythosis Code:

1. All Blockbusters borrow from at least 3 mythological tales
2. Each character mirrors ONLY ONE tale & borrows at least 35% events
3. The mythological tales used must be interwoven with a minimum score of 0.5

Story plot is made up of 4 mythological tales

Lead character is inconsistent: Jonas mirrors 2 mythological tales of Noah & David. Jiuming & Driscoll mirror ONLY ONE tale

Every character has low depth: All characters borrow less than the threshold 35%.

Story cohesiveness: Quest interweaving score of 0.67 is above the desired figure of 0.50

Meg 2's script potential score is 0.057. This indicates an audience appeal of 1.61-1.97% of the domestic market population. At current ticket prices the audience appeal translates to USD 57-69MM box office revenues.

Jaws’ script is 30x superior than Meg 2
